In the continent of Pywel, the rival factions of Pailune maintained a tense balance. Alongside Kliff were his loyal Grey Manes companions, but a devastating ambush in the dead of night by their sworn enemies, the Black Bears, leaves many of the Grey Manes members dead or scattered across the continent.

Kliff — having lost the faction he considered his true family — is determined to reunite with the survivors and rebuild the Grey Manes.
